Project: Cambridge South

Lands Improvement together with Pigeon Land have a joint promotion agreement over 170 hectares of Green Belt land to the south of Cambridge.

The site is being promoted through the Greater Cambridge Share Partnership (GSCP) local plan to meet Cambridge’s residential and employment needs. The scheme will focus on high-quality placemaking, provision of open space and the creation of a new and inclusive community.

Representations advocating development at Cambridge South, demonstrating links to surrounding employment and community opportunities, were submitted to the GSCP during 2021, for consideration in the first stages of the local-plan process. The process is expected to continue until 2023/2024.

The proposed scheme, which will be further developed with input from the local community and key stakeholders, sought to make provision for residential and employment uses. It also included initial commitments to meet net-zero carbon targets and biodiversity net gains of 10%; and to commit significant areas of land to provide improved publicly accessible green space, with strong linkages to Cambridge’s existing nature networks.

The next steps will involve continued promotion and active engagement within the GSCP local plan framework. The local plan is not expected to be adopted until 2023/2024.
